Pick up the winning formula of Blackjack Basics

Many a times you might have been stumped by the expertise on splitting tens of the players at your table. If you are wracking your nerves on the ways and means to romp home with the bust card of the dealer, all you have to do is to pick up a few black jack basics to notch up your strategies and to power pack your moves.

Black jack rules are simple and easy. These could be mastered even by green horns in no time and probably this is what made this game a chart buster in popularity ratings. The basic aim of the game is to win a hand with a value close to the magic number of 21 without overstepping. Any hand more than 21 is a bust. In Black jack, the players are pitted against the dealers and they do not play against other players. All you have to do is to outsmart the hand of the dealer.

Black jack is popularly known as twenty-one. As they say what’s in a name; the idea of this game is to beat the dealer always. This game can be played with one, two, four, six or eight decks of cards; these days many casinos also use continuous shuffling machine. In the first two types, the dealer is in charge of dealing the cards out to the players, while in multi-deck games the cards are shuffled and distributed from a tray referred to as a shoe. Typically in hand held games, the players pick up from the cards that are kept face down. In the version of shoe game, the players are prohibited from touching the cards and the cards are always kept face up.

In blackjack, all the number cards are counted at their face value, while the picture cards such as jack, king and queen carry 10 points each. Aces can take the value of either 1 or 11(soft ace), whichever makes it more advantageous to the player. For instance in a hand with a seven and an ace, the ace will have a value of 11, whereas if you have a hand with an ace, a three and a ten then ace can only take the value of 1 (hard ace) to avoid the hand going bust. You stand to lose the game if you bust, no matter whether the dealer busts or not as the odds are loaded against the player.

If you have a soft hand, try to go for the following strategic moves. If your hand is valued anything between 13 and 18, double down if the dealer has an up-card of 6 or 5. If you have a hand with a value of less than 17, go for the hit; while if you have 19 or higher, it is better to stand. If you are at 18, you can safely hit. However, when the dealer’s card is less than six and in case the dealer’s card is more than seven, you can opt to stand.

Whenever you get aces or eights in pairs, choose to split them. Nevertheless, you should by no means spilt 4s, 5s or 10s; the best strategy would be to split the pairs when the up-card of the dealer is less than 6. Steer clear of the option of taking insurance.
